Define the product purchase
Food-processing wastewater can change between production, washdown and cleaning. A DAF polymer purchase should address the actual fats, oils and suspended-solids duty, not promise removal of every organic constituent. Include how the floated solids are skimmed, stored and dewatered.
Identify the stream, separator and unresolved limitation before selecting a trial grade. Preserve the proposed commercial code so laboratory work and purchasing refer to the same material.
Separate production and cleaning states
Record flow, pH, temperature, TSS, oil and grease where measured, equalization and cleaning-chemical history. Identify samples that represent unusually dilute wash water or concentrated product loss.
An average sample without its production context may conceal the emulsified-fat or hydraulic condition that limits the plant.
Stabilize coagulation before grade ranking
Reproduce pH adjustment and primary coagulant conditions. Compare coded PAM candidates at controlled active additions and observe bubble contact and rise in suitable flotation work.
The DAF addition-point record helps distinguish polymer selection from poor distribution or an unstable recycle-air system.
Approve water and floated solids
Measure the agreed liquid targets alongside float stability, skimmability, float solids and subsequent handling. Confirm the leading candidate through the actual loading range rather than selecting from settling speed.
PAM-supported solids removal is not evidence of complete dissolved-COD removal. Preserve the responsibility of downstream treatment in the purchase scope.
Resolve a conflicting result
If effluent improves but a watery or sticky float overloads downstream sludge handling, review the combined duty. A clean outlet sample alone does not establish the best food-wastewater chemical purchase.
Retain the reference condition and repeat the comparison where sampling or instrument variability obscures the difference. Report what remains untested rather than extending one favorable response to the entire plant.
